Technology is everywhere, pulling our attention away from fully engaging the Lord and the people in our lives in a real way. The month of July we are making an effort to pull away from phones & electronic devices and connect with those around us. This can look like having dinner together with the phones put away, resisting the urge to check social media, turning the TV off and spending quality time together. This will allow opportunity for uninterrupted time, free from distractions, and provides an environment for fun, spending time with each other and the Lord in a deeper way.
This month we also want to take time to be a light in our community! We have two opportunities for the whole family to get involved. On Saturday, July 24th, We are partnering with City For The Nations and Beyond 90 to bless a local community. New Life will be bringing clothes from The Storehouse, as well as a few hundred back to school backpacks for the children. We will come alongside the rest of the outreach activities which include a soccer clinic and lunch for the community. We also will be opening up The Storehouse on Saturday, August 7th, for local kids to get free haircuts and a backpack for back to school.
We need lots of volunteers to make these events happen. You can find all of the event information and sign up to volunteer your time below!
Ideas for Family Hour
Spend time together at the dinner table with your family or close friends. Make an effort to put all phones or electronic devices away during your meal by putting them into a special basket or doing a “phone stack.” Uninterrupted time at the table, free from distractions, provides an environment for fun and deeper discussion. Some ideas can be found here!
Taking Communion Together
Taking communion shouldn’t be confined to the church walls. Grab your Bibles and some communion elements. It can even be apple juice and crackers, and experience communion in a new and intimate way with your loved ones or even just you and the Lord. (I Corinthians 11:23-31, Matthew 26:26-28)
Cook a meal together
Plan and cook a meal from scratch with your family. It doesn’t have to be difficult, just involving others in this daily task will make it a fun family activity. Cooking with young children can be tricky but rewarding.
Dust off some of the games in the back of your closet or purchase a new game and have a game night with your family or friends.
